San Quirico
Nestled amidst acacia and chestnut woods at 530 meters above sea level, San Quirico lies on the north-eastern slope of Mount Battifolle. Besides appreciating its surrounding landscape, worthwhile visiting is its parish church, which preserves an interesting full-immersion baptismal fount and, in the vestibule, a fountain in pietra serena (grey stone), a work of art attributed to Matteo Civitali. Departing from the hamlet of Uso di Sotto – and more precisely from the homonymous shelter at an altitude of 850 meters – trekking trails will lead visitors up to the peaks of these mountains (Battifolle 1,110 mt; Penna di Lucchio 1,170 mt; Memoriante 1,140 mt) as well as to all of the other villages scattered around the Swiss Pesciatina. San Quirico hosts a private collection in the “Mountain Ethnological Museum”, with exhibits that give testimony to mountain arts and crafts of long ago arrayed in an ancient mill.
