Uzzano
The unmistakable profile of Uzzano Castello can be easily traced from anywhere in the valley below. It can be reached from the village of S. Lucia and stands out on top of the hill as testimony to the memory of Medieval times. In the large, stone paved main square soars the ancient Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo (Captain’s Palace). A short distance away, a little higher up, rises the church of Saints Jacopo and Martino with its white and green marble façade and elegant bell tower. From here magnificent panoramas will unfold in front of your eyes: regular rows of olive trees that gently spot the countryside and, right in the middle, the Villa “Il Castellaccio” where Giacomo Puccini spent his summer in 1895 to draw inspiration for the second and third acts of the opera La Bohème.
