Culture
The Valdinevole has always been a cradle of culture.
In 1331, the small village of Stignano gave birth to one of the greatest humanists of the Renaissance, Coluccio Salutati. He worked as secretary to the Pope and Chancellor of the Republic of Florence.
In 1809 the renowned satirical writer Giuseppe Giusti was born in Monsummano. With his stinging wit, he denounced the vices and plagues of society of all times.
The author of the most celebrated puppet in the world, Pinocchio, was born in Collodi.  Carlo Lorenzini was of humble origins and his parents worked for the aristocratic Garzoni family. Giulio Rospigliosi, elected pope in 1667 with the name of Clemente IX, commissioned Gianlorenzo Bernini the project of designing an imposing villa in Lamporecchio, his forefathers’ native land.
But Valdinievole is mainly a land of inspiration. Its charming waterways, pleasant landscapes and gentle rolling hills have always offered a relaxing ambiance to musicians – Giuseppe Verdi at the lead – painters and artists from different disciplines: from literature to theater, opera, cinema. Art, culture and harmony represent the wealth of our territory, a solid  heritage characterized by the art of tradition and reception.
