Monsummano Terme
The town of Monsummano Terme is a cornucopia of treasures.
It boasts three historical centers, notably Monsummano, Monsummano Alto (uptown) and Montevettolini; an elegant thermal spa center characterized by the most famous natural grottos in Europe, Grotta Giusti; a prestigious international 18-hole golf course, La Pievaccia; and an extraordinary natural reserve rich with innumerable species of flora and fauna, the Padule di Fucecchio (Fucecchio Marshes). Moreover, the Montalbano hills can satisfy even the most demanding trekkers with many paths and trails plunged amidst the most virgin greenery. Monsummano is also a land of culture: the homeland of intellectual and politician Ferdinando Martini, whose residence,  known as Villa Renatico, now accommodates the Museum of Contemporary Art (Mac’n), and of poet Giuseppe Giusti, whose birth house has been turned into a national  museum. The ancient Osteria dei Pellegrini (Pilgrims’ Hostel) is the seat of the prestigious Museo della Città e del Territorio (Museum of the Town and Territory), while the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Fontenuova is an important religious center and contains precious works of sacred art.
Monsummano is a location frequently chosen for special events, festivals and celebrations. One of them not to be missed is “Cioccolosità”, an exhibition that celebrates chocolate and where tastes of the excellent local production of hand-made chocolate can be had. It is held every year between January and February.
