Lamporecchio
Lamporecchio rises amidst the Montalbano hills and the natural reserve of the Padule di Fucecchio (Fucecchio Marshes). This peaceful little Tuscan town preserves an outstanding artistic and historic heritage: the Vitoni tower in Collececioli, the small medieval center of Porciano, the Church of Orbignano, which hosts a bas-relief of the “Holy Virgin and Child” by the school of Donatello, and the Church of San Baronto with its fascinating crypt. In the heart of the town, notably in the church of S. Stefano, visitors can admire the “Visitation of Mary to Elisabeth”, a work in glazed ceramic realized by Giovanni Della Robbia in 1525, and the imposing Villa Rospigliosi, commissioned by Pope Clemente IX.
Dotted with olive groves and vineyards, the surrounding countryside is ideal for a dive into untouched nature to discover Leonardo da Vinci’s homeland, as well as the genuineness of local oil and traditional recipes like the “brigidini” (thin anise flavored wafers).
