Pescia
Pescia perfectly combines art with landscape – that are the very essence of Tuscany’s fascination. Located halfway between Lucca and Florence, it was acknowledged the title of ‘noble town’ by Cosimo de’ Medici in 1699; the elegant buildings that crown its historic center are there to witness its prestigious past. Its surrounding hills, known as the “Svizzera Pesciatina”, mark its natural boundaries. Ten “castella”, ancient walled villages, dominate a landscape dotted with olive groves, chestnut woods, and an interweaving of waterways and trails. The presence of man is signaled by water mills, ancient paper mills (some of the oldest in Italy) and the strong bond with local gastronomic traditions. In the neighborhood of Pescia you will find the hometown of Pinocchio, Collodi, awarded by Touring Club Italia with its prestigious “Orange Flag”; the grand Park devoted to the paramount puppet; and Villa Garzoni, one of the most important villas in Tuscany thanks to its marvelous flourishing gardens. Pescia boasts a century-old tradition in “green culture”: it is the capital of floral nurseries, cut flowers, decorative plant production, olive grove selection and sale, and the recovery and cultivation of citrus trees.
