The Valdinievole has always been a place of passing through and the pilgrims, soldiers and merchants of many epochs have left their footprints on its land. Today, the principle communication road that connects Florence to the most important seaside resorts along the Tyrrhenian coast – most notably Viareggio –  crosses a land strongly characterized by man’s urban presence.
But, surprisingly, heading north just a few kilometers toward the hills, or down toward the valley that stretches to the south, you are plunged into a totally different world where time seems to have stood still. Only a few minutes away and you find yourself amidst virgin landscapes. Walking, pedaling or on horseback, you will discover green trails that will let you breathe the most authentic of Tuscan air. Choose between challenging or relaxing trails, depending on your needs and, if you wish, alternate the search for untouched nature with the discovery of charming natural scenarios, artistic and historic testimonies, impressive archeological remains and – why not? – the pleasure of local gastronomy.
The Valleriana, better known as the Pescia mountains, the gentle hill towns scattered from the central plain up to the slopes of Monsummano Alto (uptown), the profile of the Montalbano mountain chain that inspired Leonardo da Vinci, who was born here, and, lastly, the uniqueness of a natural reserve, the Padule di Fucecchio (Fucecchio Marshes) are ready to welcome you with a thousand occasions for thrilling experiences.
