Uzzano Castle
The tall and solid boundary walls of the ancient Roman Castrum in Uzzano have long since incorporated themselves into the palaces of the hamlet that is reached through the ancient “Porta delle Pille” (Pille Door). The imposing Palazzo del Capitano (Captain Palace) over looks the small square, inviting visitors to go back in time to follow the paths of pilgrims and captains of adventure. Starting from this village and proceeding along the “Erta“, an old and steep paved path, you can reach the nearby town of Pescia, or, take the Via della Madonna del Canale, which is just outside of town near the hills, to reach the homonymous Oratory. You can also take Via di San Luca that leads to the Pianacci district and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding hills and views from the Castle. Those that do not wish to walk can stop at the Costa and admire the Belvedere to contemplate the peaceful images of a lesser known Tuscany.
