Montevettolini
The hamlet of Montevettolini rises gracefully on the north-western slopes of Montalbano hills, a few kilometres from Monsummano Terme. A majestic Villa, formerly owned by the Medici family and now a private estate, towers over the village. The Villa was commissioned at the end of the 16th century by Ferdinando I de’ Medici as a peaceful and harmonious resting place and hunting mansion nestled amidst relaxing countryside scenarios. Around the Villa, sumptuous noble residences were built that added a magical touch to the atmosphere that reigned in Montevettolini. Visitors can still savor this magic by simply strolling along its narrow roads, or on the occasion of the frequent folk festivals and special events that are organized in town, such as the Easter time ‘Good Friday’, which is held once every three years concurrent with the suggestive “Festa Grossa” (Great Feast) and the historical Christ procession.
Montevettolini is the ideal starting point for many itineraries that will lead you to discover the castles scattered around the Valdinievole and Montalbano; areas that offer lovers of Tuscan landscapes pleasant strolls and charming sights.
