Giuseppe Giusti
To get acquainted with the life and experiences of poet Guseppe Giusti, who was closely intertwined both personally and culturally with Monsummano, there is nothing better than a visit to his Museum House.
Giuseppe Giusti was born in Monsummano on May 12th 1809. His father Domenico was the manager of Montecatini thermal establishments, as well as a wealthy landowner. In 1849, a grotto was discovered on one of his estates, which was later to become an internationally renowned thermal resort and that still bears his name today: the Grotta Giusti. Giuseppe lived in Montecatini, Pescia and Florence. He made friends with many outstanding personalities of the time, such as Gino Capponi, Gian Pietro Viesseaux and Alessandro Manzoni. His poems are real testimony to his stinging satirical wit and his acute observations on the customs of his time.
A visit to his Museum will take you back to the beginning of the 19th century, the age of Romanticism, where the interior decor, antiques and relics will plunge you into the atmosphere that reigned in a wealthy family residence
