Villa Rospigliosi
Villa Rospigliosi is nestled in the village of Lamporecchio, in the heart of the rolling Montalbano hills between San Baronto and Vinci. This sumptuous villa, built between 1667 and 1669, based on a project by the school of Gian Lorenzo Bernini was destined for pope Giulio Rospigliosi, elected with the name of Clemente IX. The upper floor hosts a large elliptic hall with frescoed walls surmounted by a cupola decorated with large female figures carrying the signs of the zodiac. The garden consists of a meadow, a central fountain and an elegant patrician chapel. At the back of the Villa, an avenue bordered by holm oaks leads to a vast park that originally was a hunting reserve. Now the Villa hosts a conference and service center and can be visited on request.
