Funicular
The funicular opened in 1898 and has two coaches: Gigio & Gigia. It is one of the oldest operating funicular in the world and reaches upward the heart of the old uptown on a breathtakingly steep track. The track is 1,050 meters long with a 202-meter rise which, in its final steepest point, reaches a 38.5% slant.
The two coaches are painted bright red and run alternatively – one goes down while the other goes up – between the bottom station (downtown Montecatini Terme) and the top station (uptown) in just ten minutes.
A miracle of past technology, the funicular gives back to today’s visitors the pleasure of a ‘slow’ run, in total relaxation surrounded by nature.
