Park of Pinocchio
Collodi, hometown of Carlo Lorenzini, the father of the most famous puppet of all times, welcomes visitors to a place that casts its playful, dreamy spell on all: the Pinocchio Park, a land where a dive into the world of fantasy becomes reality for children and adults alike. The Park is plunged into evergreen, luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation and is dotted with many works of art realized by some of the major sculptors and artists of the 20th century, like Emilio Greco, Pietro Consagra, Venturino Venturi, Marco Zanuso, and others. Here visitors will come across the characters of the novel and relive the significant episodes of Carlo Lorenzini’s universal fable: the Fox and the Cat, Geppetto, the Blue Fairy, the Tree of Golden Ducats, the Great Whale, the Donkey, the Talking Cricket… a journey into the world of dreams and the most poetic and sweet fable of all times.
The Pinocchio Park also accommodates Toyland and the Museum-Library, the “Laboratory of Words and Figures”, established in 1987 based on an idea conceived by Giovanni Michelucci. The Laboratory displays an array of drawings by professional illustrators and children, and organizes educational workshops. The Park, and its large equipped areas, is open to the public all the year round, from 8:30am to sunset, non-stop. Each year, the Park offers a calendar rich with puppet shows, workshops on art and culture, and art exhibitions inspired by children’s literature.
