 Bicycle Racing
Road bicycle racing boasts a long tradition in the Valdinievole, with a great number of amateur and professional riders, as well as sport teams. The rich variety in landscape scenarios becomes wealth in terms of the variety of tracks: from easy, straight roadways to more engaging portions characterized by curves, slopes and technical uphill climbs.  In any event, bicycle lovers will discover unusual paths, thrilling views and the ride will never be monotonous.
The Giro d’Italia (the Italian multi-stage tour) has scheduled stages in the Valdinievole several times: the Montalbano Mountain Climb is definitely one of the most engaging uphills with a 277-meter rise and climbs that reach up to a 10% slope at 1.7 kilometers from the beginning of the race. In fact, professionals assert that the “San Baronto uphill” is a real jewel both for its length and the technical difficulties that it entails. And San Baronto, a hermit saint whose name was given to the little church that is found along the way, was proclaimed the patron saint of Tuscan riders in 1995. Some champions were born in these parts (one name says it all, Rino Benedetti), while others have moved here (Rolf Sorensen, Edita Pucinskite).
But even if you are not a champion, the Valdinievole is the right destination for bicycle lovers, who choose to practice this sport for leisure, health or passion.
